A man who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The legal representative added: "This year his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member notified the police about his concerns.
She said Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor said the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
